Construction · Virginia use case

Plan temporary foodservice around an active worksite.

A construction schedule affects where equipment can be delivered, connected, serviced, and removed. Start with the receiving property and the food operation, then check the public work-zone record for access changes.

Public project records provide planning examples. They do not identify Rolling Kitchens as a supplier, establish an equipment request, or authorize a trailer placement. Project status reviewed October 24, 2026.

01 / Project record

Active construction and its access constraints.

These examples are drawn from VDOT and VCU records. Each project has its own boundary and schedule; neither a nearby project nor a large budget proves that foodservice equipment is needed.

Augusta County near Staunton

I-81 widening, exits 221–225

Public status: VDOT lists the corridor as under construction, with estimated completion in summer 2027. The project is in Augusta County, near Staunton; it is not inside the independent City of Staunton.

Rental planning: Lane closures and blocked shoulders change delivery timing. For any separate Staunton mobile kitchen trailer rental, first identify the actual receiver, off-highway pad, staff parking, and route that keeps the trailer outside the construction work zone.

City of Lynchburg

Candlers Mountain Road interchange

Public status: VDOT lists bridge and interchange reconstruction as under construction, with estimated completion in summer 2029. Its record says traffic shifts and temporary lane closures may be needed.

Rental planning: A Lynchburg portable kitchen trailer rental brief should show the receiving address, vehicle turning path, delivery window, temporary traffic controls, and utility tie-ins. A public road project does not itself create an approved kitchen site.

VDOT Lynchburg project record

City of Newport News

I-64 at Denbigh Boulevard, phase 1

Public status: VDOT lists phase 1 as under construction after a late-summer 2026 start, with estimated completion in summer 2029. The work includes westbound ramps and Denbigh Boulevard intersection changes.

Rental planning: A Newport News modular kitchen trailer rental for a separate school, hospital, or contractor must use that property’s approved gate and service lane. Check the current Pagewood Drive connector closure and keep food deliveries separate from work-zone traffic.

VDOT Denbigh interchange record

Washington County near Abingdon

Thompson Drive and Stanley Street roundabout

Public status: VDOT places this project in Washington County and lists construction underway since February 2026, with estimated completion in summer 2027.

Rental planning: The published work includes driveway changes and utility relocation. An Abingdon-area temporary kitchen trailer plan at a different receiving property should verify its usable entrance, pedestrian separation, and power route before setting a delivery date.

VDOT Thompson Drive project record

City of Richmond

VCU West Grace Street housing

Public status: VCU reported construction underway in the 700 block of West Grace Street in August 2026. The project includes a planned ground-floor dining venue and is expected to be ready for fall 2028.

Rental planning: The future dining space does not establish a present foodservice outage. Any Richmond mobile kitchen facility rental for a different campus operator would require a named receiver, meal count, loading entrance, pedestrian plan, and utility shutdown schedule.

02 / Receiving-site brief

Resolve the site before selecting a trailer.

A contractor meal plan, an institutional kitchen shutdown, and a temporary concession require different equipment and approvals.

  1. Name the receiver. Provide the property address, site decision-maker, operating organization, and approved placement area.
  2. Measure the route. Show the approach, gate width, turn, pad, overhead clearance, service access, fire lanes, and separation from equipment movements.
  3. Specify the operation. Provide peak meals per shift, menu, preparation hours, staff count, and whether guests enter the unit.
  4. Show temporary utilities. Identify electrical voltage and phase, potable water, wastewater, grease handling, and when each connection will be ready.
  5. Confirm approvals and term. Record health, fire, and site permits, delivery window, removal date, and who will maintain the temporary services.

Compare a mobile commercial kitchen, dishwashing trailer, and refrigeration unit against the actual operating brief. Review the supplied equipment price bands before requesting a delivered quote.

The Bristol city brief distinguishes active contracts from road projects still in design and notes bridge restrictions for heavy vehicles. The Alexandria city brief separates Landmark-area construction facts from any foodservice request. Use those records as context and obtain the receiving site’s own approvals.
